The hall was sold to the Youth Hostel Association in 1948 which now offers family accommodation as well as wedding facilities. There are a number of ghosts here, one being a lady of the hall in the form of an old woman. She is also said to haunt the nearby crossroads where she was hanged for being a witch.

Televisions Most Haunted team paid a visit in 2002. Originally named The George, built in 1693, it was once a coaching inn. There have been reports of poltergeist activity which could be linked to a skull discovered in the cellar.

A few odd occurrences have been reported. Seances have taken place that have revealed the spirit of Eliza Morrow who was murdered by Richard Thorley, the last man to be publically hanged in Derby who is also said to haunt the pub, and then there is a ghost in the cellar called Arthur.
