Born Jayne Vera Palmer in Philadelphia on the 19th of April 1933, she became one of the biggest sex symbols with her renowned love of the colour pink. She began her career by entering beauty contests, attaining several walk-on parts on television before getting a role as supporting player in 1955. Moving onto Broadway, it seemed that she was doomed to play the same dizzy blond characters. During the 60's most of her work was for European film companies, also starring her second husband, Mickey Hargitay. Her last film 'Single Room Furnished' was released after her untimely death in a car accident.
Her personal life was full of scandal and affairs. Openly involved in the occult, the man who died with her was said to have had a curse placed on him. She had been warned to keep away from the man but it was said that he was blackmailing her. It was reported that the famous actress was decapitated in the accident, but this is not true, it was a wig that witnesses saw falling and not her head.
She was said to haunt her former home, The Pink Palace, which was owned for years by Englebert Humperdink. He said he believed her spirit to be at rest but if she isn't, then Jayne is haunting the site where the house had stood since 1929. Finding such a large house expensive, Englebert Humperdink sold it with the understanding that it would be a monument to the film star but was horrified when a year later it was torn down. Until the Humperdink family moved into the house former owners had problems with furniture being moved. The walls were painted over, but always came back a pink hue, even with sealer.
It was also the former home of Cass Elliott of the Mama's and Papa's who came to an untimely end. It's said that other owners of the house have also inexplicably died.
